Welcome !

We’re delighted to have this opportunity to tell you about God’s work through us in Box and further afield.
Whether you are an established member already or ‘just browsing’, you are assured of a genuinely warm and friendly welcome. It’s lovely to see new faces, whether at services or our social events like the Thursday Community Cafe!

We hold church services on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays. On the first Sunday we host the Lay-led team from our friends at St. Thomas à Becket. On the second Sunday of the month we see a Methodist minister from the circuit, with a Holy Communion service (that’s our Minister, Rev. Dr. Simon Topping on the right) On the fourth Sunday of the month we hold a slightly less “traditional” service, organised and presented by members of our Lay-led team. Nothing too scary or alternative, it’s a chance to praise God and to contemplate His gifts in a warm, welcoming, inclusive and non-threatening atmosphere.

As Methodists, our calling is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

A Methodist Way of Life helps us individually and together as we grow as followers of Jesus, to worship God, serve others, share our faith, and learn and care together.

The Inclusive Methodist Church

The Methodist Church is committed to Justice, Dignity and Solidarity.

We believe that all people are uniquely made in the image of God, and we aim to live this out in the Church and in our communities.

Conference 2021 adopted the Strategy for Justice, Dignity and Solidarity..

This means we aim:

  • to celebrate the rich diversity of people within the Methodist Church
  • to eradicate all discrimination, to treat all people justly and with dignity across the breadth of the Methodist Church
  • for a profound change in the culture, practices and attitudes of the Methodist Church so that all Methodists are able to be full participants in the Church’s life.

Worship from home

During the pandemic many folk benefitted and found comfort in the diverse ways Christians found to continue to worship whilst staying home! Here you can find lots of ways to continue to do just that!

Prayer of the day

Click here to go to the UK Methodist website and participate in the prayer of the day, or here to find the recommended Bible readings for today!

Worship together

The Church is best described as traditional on the outside but modern on the inside, with individual comfy chairs (no hard pews!), plenty of heating and a ‘T-loop’ system for those with hearing loss. We have permanent ramped access to the entrance for wheelchair-users. Find our full access audit here

Our Sunday services start at 11am and last between 45 minutes and 1 hour. If you would like to know more about how we came to our present location, the Historypage will give you more information.

We also enjoy links with Brunel House care home, and often organise transport so that residents can join us on Sundays, and for our popular “Thursday Community Cafe”

The Filling Station

We also host an ‘alternative’ cafe-style Service once a month called “The Filling Station”
It’s an uplifting and deeply spiritual experience. It’s Church, but not as you know it.

Services

In our services we endeavour to give everyone the opportunity to worship together in a reverent and spiritual manner. We proclaim the good news of salvation through repentance and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and the word of God is taught and applied to our day to day living. If you would like to know more about us please have a word with our Minister, Rev. Dr. Simon Topping or our senior steward. Details are on our contact page. We would be happy to speak with you regarding any spiritual matters or other concerns that you may have, at Church or in your home if you wish.

Within this site there are many activities that we carry out in the name of the Lord, so please take a look around at what’s on offer. We hope that you find both the online and the physical version of Box Methodist Church to be places where you can feel at peace and at home. We look forward to seeing you soon!
